Work out what you want to achieve

Before you make a start, it’s worth taking some time to decide what end result you’re looking to achieve. Is the desire to overhaul your kitchen completely or revitalise a few elements to improve the look and functionality?

Focus on clever storage

No matter what space you have, you can do wonders with clever storage solutions. It’s all about making your kitchen work for you, making cooking easier and a room you like to spend time in. Consider your current routines and what you use most often.

Use this guidance to look at whether you’d benefit from adding more clever drawers instead of cupboards or adding built in smart storage like tupperware dividers to make your life less frustrating. Consider also adding in shelving around your kitchen to easily access items and make a feature of the contents with downlights. By adding some of these elements to your kitchen you can easily double your space but there still needs to be a practical side to shelving. Can you reach the top level? Is the material going to be strong enough to house your desired contents and how easy will they be to clean? Should the unit have a glass door, if so, is there enough clearance to open the doors easily?

Have a clear out

Clear your schedule for the morning, empty every cupboard into a single space, dividing what you need, what can be donated to your local charity shop and anything to bin. By making time for a regular cull, you can keep your kitchen sparkling and your counter and cupboard space clear and easy to use.

Everyone loves an island. The benefits are endless, not only do they look great and provide a great space for socialising, extra seating space – to name a few! But they’re also a fantastic storage solution. They are an investment but you can fully tailor the size of yours to suit your budget, storage needs and the size of your kitchen.
